Dental Implants

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and also provide a fixed solution to having removable partial or complete dentures.  Implants provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances.

Dental implants are artificial roots (usually made of titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone.  An implant crown is then attached to the implant body, and will be very similar in appearance to a natural tooth!

Dental implants are strong and durable and will last many years.  On occasion, they will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear.

Reasons for dental implants:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.
  • Restore a patient’s confident smile.
  • Restore chewing, speech, and digestion.
  • Restore or enhance facial tissues.
  • Support a bridge or denture, making it more secure and comfortable.
What does getting dental implants involve?

At the present time, the dentists at Fintel Family Dentistry do not surgically place dental implants, you will be referred to an oral surgeon or periodontist for this procedure.  After the surgical placement of the implant, a healing time of 3-4 months is normal to allow integration of the implant with the surrounding jaw bone.  The oral surgeon or periodontist will go into more detail prior to the placement of the implant.

After the healing time is over, the dental implant will be restored with an implant crown.  This is normally done by a general dentist, and we certainly provide this service at Fintel Family Dentistry.  The procedure involves a simple impression of the teeth, very similar to conventional crown impressions.

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed.  Good oral hygiene and eating habits, alongside regular dental visits, will aid in the life of your new implant.
